“Hyde Park – Spanishtown Creek Civic Association is a non-profit community association.  The organization was formerly known as “Hyde Park North” and re-organized in 2015.  This entire area was once a fishing village formed in the early 1800’s by Spanish settlers.  The village was known as “Spanishtown” and a creek that sprang up from near the corner of present-day Delaware Ave and Platt Street flowed southeast into Hillsborough Bay.  More information about Spanishtown and its creek is available here:

The boundaries of the organization begin at site of the historic Seybold Bakery at the corner of Horatio Ave and Dakota Ave and proceed east.  All of the properties east of Boulevard Ave and west of Bayshore Boulevard between Swann Ave to the south and the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway to the north are included.

Information on the Tampa Historical Society


Within the boundaries of Hyde Park - Spanishtown Creek, we are proud to claim the headquarters for the Tampa Historical Society.  Located in the historic Peter O. Knight (c. 1890) home at 245 S. Hyde Park Avenue, this not-for-profit organization interprets Tampa history in the Gaslight Era, through publications, programs, tours, lectures, workshops, and special events.  The Society publishes The Sunland Tribune, an annual journal of local history.
